ABOUT ME

JULIAN HUDSON

Rehab isn’t finished when pain reduces, it’s finished when confidence returns.

Most people I work with have already sought help for their pain or injury.
What’s often missing isn’t effort or reassurance, but a clear understanding of what’s going on, why symptoms behave the way they do, and how to make sense of conflicting advice.

I’m Julian, a musculoskeletal physiotherapist with a background in sport and exercise physiology, and nearly 20 years’ experience across fitness, rehabilitation, and health education.

Along the way, I’ve learned that pain, injury, and performance aren’t just physical problems to be “fixed.” They’re influenced by physiology, behaviour, beliefs, and environment, and rehab works best when all of these are considered.

With a background in exercise physiology, I’m particularly interested in why we use certain rehab, performance, and recovery tools. For any method or recommendation, I ask two simple questions: what adaptation are we trying to create, and is there evidence that it supports that goal? If the evidence is unclear, I’m honest about that, focusing on what we know works, and treating anything else as optional rather than a guaranteed fix.

Completing my Master’s in Physiotherapy in 2023 allowed me to bring those perspectives together, bridging the gap between rehabilitation and performance. Rather than treating rehab and training as separate worlds, I use principles from both to help people return to activity safely, progressively, and with confidence.

My bias is toward resistance training, not as a quick fix, but as a long-term tool. Done well, it improves function, supports healthy ageing, reduces injury risk, and helps people stay independent and capable for longer.

Whether I’m working with someone recovering from injury, returning to activity, or aiming to perform at their best, my goal is the same: to meet them where they are, ask the right questions, and build a plan that’s safe, effective, and sustainable, so they can move well, feel confident, and keep doing what they enjoy.

I’ve always believed that strength is for everyone, not just athletes or gym enthusiasts. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing people who thought resistance training “wasn’t for them” and hear how they’ve continued to grow in strength, independence and resilience.
